2012 Omaha Chess Camp

At Omaha Central High, 124 N. 20Th St.

June 4 – 8, 2012


For students entering grades 3-12, who are interested in improving their chess play,

getting better prepared for tournaments, and who want to increase their appreciation for the magic of the game.

 

Cost of the camp:  $180.00

Enrollment in the camp is limited.  Prior to being accepted to the camp, students will have an individual session with Drew Thyden to determine suitability and group placement.  A deposit of $75.00 is due with registration, with the balance due by May 25th.  Students not accepted to the camp will have the deposit refunded.

Instruction will be from 9:00 am – 3:30 pm with a lunch break at noon.  Students should bring lunch.  Students may be dropped off at Central as early as 8:00 am and picked up as late as 4:30 pm.  Chess practice will be available during this time.

 

Students will study middle game tactics, positional themes, checkmates, opening ideas and endgame techniques.  Students will also learn chess notation, play notated games and have these games analyzed.  A tournament will be held on Friday.


About the instructors:   Drew Thyden has coached Omaha Central’s Chess Team for 15 years, winning 8 State High School team titles.  Joe Knapp was the 2009 Omaha City Chess Champion.  Mansur Eshragh is an expert level player.  John Watson is an International Master and author of 20+ chess books.    Questions:  Drew Thyden  393-7750  dthyden@cox.net
